About Us
Launched by Grant Gravitt, Sr. in 1960, Tel-Air Interests is a full service film/video production and development company located in the Hollywood Production Complex in Hollywood, Florida. "When we started Tel-Air, there were no local television producers," Gravitt recalls, "so we put together a group to produce commercials, films, and records independently." Four Decades later Tel-Air Still Thrives.
Diversification has always been the key to Tel-Air. Since nobody, in 1960, was providing film services, Tel-Air had to step forward in many different directions. Tel-Air's first clients included the Miss Universe and Miss USA Pageants for CBS, documentaries for NASCAR and Sears, and commercial work for General Motors and the classic "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking" for Timex. Throughout the years such projects have included commissioned work for governments, music videos for the BBC, political campaigns, live sports programming, the first syndicated sports feature campaign, conventions, beauty pageants, and the first televised murder trial (well before O.J.!).
Today Tel-Air's services are split between fee-for-service clientele and "in-house" production. Recent clientele have included NBC, CBS, Trans World International, EDS, IBM, The Orange Bowl Committee, The Cotton Bowl Committee, The Southwest Conference, The Breeders' Cup, The American Red Cross, The American Cancer Society, Don Bluth, Warner Bros. Music, and Julio Iglesias.
Tel-Air's development projects include "Spring Break Reunion II" with Frankie Avalon and Connie Stevens, the Emmy Award winning "Jockey" with William Conrad, the annual Miss Florida USA and Miss Florida Teen USA Pageants, and "Speed" a co-production with National Geographic for their Explorer Series. In addition to development and production, Tel-Air also provides services in media placement, advertising and graphic design.
Tel-Air crews are equally experienced on the road having traveled throughout the world producing TV specials and award winning documentaries. Commissioned work in such locales as The Philippines, Australia, Norway. Hong Kong, Peru, Mexico, St. Maarten, Greece, and El Salvador have brought unique challenges for Gravitt and his Tel-Air crew. "We've encountered typhoons, terrorist attacks, earthquakes, and even been held as hostages."
Tel-Air's Studio facilities include two film and television stages, state of the art video tape and non-linear digital editing, complete film editing and mixing, a full range of video and audio services, fiber optic transmission and receiving for national and international networking, immediate access to up-link/down-link satellite communications, full location production and editing capabilities, and a creative and technical staff that is recognized as being among the most skilled and creative people in the television / communications industry.
