Clare Whelan
Community Relations
Clare Whelan is one of South Florida’s most accomplished event producers, with a career spanning decades of landmark moments that helped shape Miami into the world-class destination it is today. Originally a logistics expert on the World’s Fair circuits, she was recruited in the early 1980s to help reimagine Miami’s image during a turbulent era marked by riots and cartel violence. Business leaders launched an ambitious bid to host the 1992 World’s Fair, and while Miami ultimately lost to Seville, Spain, Clare had found a city to call home and a stage for her talents.
Her expertise in logistics and community relations placed her at the center of many of Miami’s most historic events. She produced the 1987 meeting between Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan at Vizcaya, the first Miami Grand Prix downtown, the 1996 Miami Centennial year-long celebration, and the Super Bowl NFL Corporate Village, in addition to celebrity events, conventions, and trade shows throughout South Florida, Latin America, and Europe.
Clare’s leadership extended to launching the first membership department of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, serving as Senior Director of Membership and Sponsorships at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, producing its Centennial events, and later directing the Senior Executive Orientation program. She eventually launched her own independent career as a corporate meeting planner, continuing to work with governments, corporations, and nonprofits.
Today, Clare brings her vast experience, community relationships, and reputation for excellence to Tel-Air, representing the company throughout South Florida and expanding on its legacy in film, television, and event production
